What to Expect

What happens in a Sports & Cupping Massage?

We start by assessing your movement in the affected area, working through simple movement tests and stretches to see which areas need looking at, just like a normal Sports Massage.

There is the choice of a 30 minute cupping treatment which is mainly Myofascial cupping and testing but we do recommend for optimum results to do at least a 60 minute myofascial cupping and sport massage combined.

Does it hurt?

This treatment can have a little sting, but here at massage Massage-Addict we are

NOT believers of

'no pain, no gain'.

As therapists we depend on both your communication and our experience for you to experience the least amount of pain possible.

We try to minimise discomfort as much as possible,

but as part of the treatment when working on deeper tissues there may be discomfort.

What is it for?

Cupping Therapy is one of the oldest forms of medical treatment available. Originating in Eastern China and Africa, this method of treatment is chosen to relieve pain and tension in the body using the application and suction pressure of plastic or glass cups

Areas of musculoskeletal tension or congestion are located using massage techniques and sport assessments. The cups are then applied on an affected area and moved over the surface in a gliding motion, or possibly put on a fascial adhesion or trigger point for a short time (5-15 minutes)

to reduce and eliminate it.

The cups can also be placed on specific points of the body to release localised specific pain areas and help to increase blood flow to the area to aid recovery.

There can be some red marks on the areas the cups have been placed with high tension. These look like bruises but they dissipate after 2-5 days usually.

Our therapist, Dan, is highly trained to reduce the impact as much as possible but with maximum benefit.

Tip: Rub arnica on the affected areas to heighten recovery of the worked areas.

What to Wear

We would advise arriving in flexible, stretchy shorts, or sensible underwear you don't mind moving around in.

You can also bring them with you and change on site.
